This mum is considering a kid-free wedding… except for her own three

She took to Mumsnet to share her thoughts.

A mum has said that she doesn’t really want any kids under the age of 13 at her wedding.

Posting on popular parenting forum Mumsnet, the user explained that she and her fiancée have three children – the youngest of which is 13 – and that she wouldn’t really want any children younger than this present on her big day.

User ‘curlyhepburn’ wanted to know if she was being “daft.”

Her full post reads:

“The wedding is a while off yet but just planning now and it occurred to me that I don’t know how to go about it, we have 3 kids of our own between us, youngest will be 13 at the time and we are both clear on not wanting very young kids/babies.

I know this isn’t always popular with families and I wondered if it’s reasonable to include a note of this in the info card to go out with the invites?

Am I being daft?”

It’s becoming increasingly popular for people to request childless weddings, with many being of the opinion that how you spend your wedding day should be entirely up to you.

Some people on Mumsnet shared similar sentiments to curlyhepburn.

One user replied saying: “Your wedding you do whatever you want.”

Another said: “That is absolutely the time to do it – just a little note stating that number restrictions mean that unfortunately no kids can be accommodated.”

However, some were less supportive of the idea, saying that the mum was being “unreasonable.”

“I’m not a fan of child free weddings, but couples who choose to have them need to be aware that some friends won’t attend,” said one person.

“I couldn’t go to my best friends wedding because she wouldn’t allow kids it broke my heart but I just had nobody to have my kids!” said another.

It remains to be seen what curlyhepburn will decide to do for her special day, but one thing’s for certain – it definitely is her day.
