The letters are said to show another side to the famous Princess.
Princess Diana has always been one of the most talked about royals, but with her now being portrayed in Netflix series The Crown and the recent interview with her son Harry, she has been thrown into the limelight once again.
Most recently letters written by the late Princess Diana came up at auction and were bought for a staggering $113,000.
The letters were written by Diana between 1990 and 1997 but had been hidden away in a closest for over twenty years.
The letters were written to one of Diana’s friends Roger Bramble and according to InStyle the Bramble family hopes that the letters will show ‘a different side of the people’s princess’.
The lifespan of the letters covers much of a troubled period of Diana and Charles marriage, leading up to their divorce in 1996.
In a statement regarding the letters the Bramble family said;
“We have been concerned that contemporary portrayals of Diana may become accepted wisdom in the minds of the public. We believe these letters reveal the writer to be an affectionate, cultivated, and delightful human being and that their wider publication could only do credit to their author.”
The letters are said to touch on several sensitive issues, such as Diana’s divorce from Prince Charles, her mental health struggles, and the pressures of media scrutiny.
One letter in particular which was dated October 19, 1995, caused quite a stir in the auction room as Diana refers to Queen Elizabeth II in the letter as “the Boss”.
“I just hope your arrival at Westminster Abbey was before the Boss (The Queen) and if not, I expect to have been mentioned in the excuses.”
The profits made from the sale of the letters will be split between four charities that Diana worked with, the English National Ballet, Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, Opera Rara, and the Benesh International Endowment Fund.
