Five quirky Irish children’s clothing shops that you should check out in 2020

Melissa Carton

This fashion is living in the future and we’re still in 2019.

One thing I found when I starting shopping for children’s wear is the lack of variety in colours. I was always a rainbow child growing up and now I’m a fully fledged unicorn mum…I adore bold colours.

Unfortunately, most stores prefer to stock pastels which can be frustrating when you want something with a bit of pizazz.

I had to do a bit of hunting but I found five quirky and funky kids brands that I love, even better is the fact my kids love them too.

These brands work for every occasion, whether it be a birthday party, a trip to the beach or everyday wear. They’re all based here in Ireland too.

Lollipops and Daydreams

Lollipops and Daydreams is a fantastic little shop that hand make kids clothing to your specifications, in a wide range of fabrics and styles.

A couple of weeks before I had my little girl, I spotted that they had gotten in an Alice in Wonderland fabric. Knowing that I was going to call her Alice, I just couldn’t resist and had it made for her as a dress. I had it made in size 12 months so that she could wear it for her first birthday and it actually arrived the day I had her.

Their dresses seem to be really popular for special occasions but they also make beautiful summer dresses which can be be worn in winter with the addition of a cute pair of tights and a long-sleeved top. Prices start at €12.

Chaos + Harmony

Seeing Chaos + Harmony come up in my home feed always puts a smile on my face because their clothes are just so cute. All the kids modelling them look like rock stars and little baby Bjorks.

What I like about this brand is that there are loads of funky clothing for boys. I don’t know why but it’s often much harder to find cool clothes for boys than it is for girls.

If you need another reason to check them out, they also stock adorable Kokeshi dolls in the shapes of David Bowie, Prince and Marilyn Monroe. Prices start from €5.

Mini Mwahs

Mini Mwahs has quirky graphics prints, with funky designs from Moobles and Toobles and sweet pixie style matching hats.

This is a great shop not just if you’re a parent but also if you’re buying for a mum-to-be. They have a selection of beautiful gift sets in gorgeous designs and colours.

All of the fabrics are organic and super soft so they’re perfect for delicate skin. Prices start at €12.

Clara & Carl

Clara & Carl is a range that is perfect for the changeable Irish weather with lots of outdoor wear and items that can be layered.

They have a fantastic selection of reversible clothes and what parent couldn’t use those? I don’t know how many times I’ve been stuck without a change of clothes after my kid got a massive chocolate or juice stain down their front. Being able to turn their outfit inside out would have been magic.

My favourite product though has to be their Harfies which are part hat and part scarf. They’re suitable for both genders and are great for keeping little ears warm without being too heavy on little heads. Prices start at €11.

Mini Icon

This is the brand for the parents of super fashionistas. If you’ve got a child at home that treats every street like a runway, Mini Icon is the shop for you.

These clothes are unreal, they genuinely look like something out of Vogue. They’re also super versatile as most of the range is gender neutral.

Both of my kids love clothes so I’ve no doubt that myself and Mini Icon are going to become best friends over the next few years. Prices start at €10.
