“I cannot imagine losing three of your children.”

Two brothers were hit by a train during a memorial for their sibling who died at the same spot a week prior.

The family from Charlotte in North Carolina were honouring their 27-year-old brother Baltazar Tiquiram Us, who was killed by a light-rail train on July 26.

He was hit by the train when he drove his car around the track’s crossing arm.

Police claim impairment may have led to the tragic incident.

“I’d like to stress to our citizens: Please, if you have been drinking, use a ride-share, have a designated driver, or stay where you are. If you have been drinking, please do not drive.”

It is believed the brothers, 20-year-old Jose Chilambalam Tiquiram Us and 29-year-old Pablo Tiquiram Us were found unresponsive near the train tracks.

Authorities said they were both pronounced dead at the scene.

According to CMPD Sgt. Adam Jones:

“They had been memorializing their brother on the one-week anniversary of his death and they were conducting a memorial out by the site where he was killed.”

He explained that the two males were standing on the track and lighting candles when the train approached them.

“Unfortunately, the two brothers were also struck by a train while they were on foot and they both succumbed to their injuries pretty quickly. I cannot imagine losing three of your children — three of your siblings — within a week to such tragic circumstances.”
