Madeleine McCann: Police set to issue update following lake search

Kat O'Connor

Police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are set to issue an update after searching a lake for the missing British girl.

They have warned the public that the results of the investigation are not what they hoped. They were searching the lake for the young child’s body, but have reportedly found nothing.

Investigators launched a search of the lake of June, which was just 50km from where Madeleine went missing in 2007.

The search took place over a series of days, but the Federal Criminal Police found nothing of note.

According to The Mirror, an insider said: “Please don’t expect too much”.

The update comes after a former friend of the key suspect Christian Brueckner said he has something to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.

In an interview with the German publication Bild, he claimed Scotland Yard ignored his tip-off.

Brueckner remains the key suspect in the Madeleine McCann case but has never been charged in connection with her disappearance.

Busching told the publication that his former friend told him Madeleine ‘didn’t scream’.

They met at a music festival in Spain when Brueckner allegedly made a confession about the young British girl.

“I thought: ‘He knows that. He has something to do with it.’ But he also checked that I understood that and then left at night,” he shared.

Busching tried to find Brueckner the following morning, but he was nowhere to be found.

“I called Scotland Yard back in 2008. At the Maddie hotline. I said I knew someone who might have something to do with it and gave them the name. But nothing happened there. Nothing! I was never called back,” he claimed.

He later contacted the police in 2017 about Brueckner.
