Saoirse has been through so much for such a young person.

Toy Show star Saoirse Ruane’s mum has opened up about her daughter’s cancer battle. Saoirse has been diagnosed with both lung and bone cancer since 2019, but doctors have successfully treated both cancers. Her mother Roseanna recently confirmed that Saoirse underwent surgery to remove a tumour from her lung. The operation was a success but the family has a long road ahead of them.

Roseanna explained that your entire life flips upside down when childhood cancer enters your home.

In a bid to raise awareness for Sarcoma Awareness month, Roseanna revealed the multiple struggles her young daughter has faced since her initial diagnosis in December 2019.

“July is Sarcoma Awareness month. Something we now celebrate each year as we are so grateful to have Saoírse here after all she has endured.”

Roseanna revealed that since Saoirse was diagnosed in 2019, she has gone through multiple surgeries, months of chemo, and a right leg amputation.

Saoirse has also been peg fed and had chest wall resection and reconstruction.

As well as all of that, the Toy Show star has had to endure everything that goes along with childhood cancer including “feeling miserable, spiking temperatures and injections.”

“It comes into your home and completely turns your life upside down”

Her mum continued to share that Saoirse has had to deal with hair loss, a variety of scans, and adjusting to a wheelchair.

As well as the physical trauma, Saoirse has had to emotionally adapt to this terrifying situation. The schoolgirl has been separated from her friends. She has been filled with fear and anxiety too.

Saoirse has also had to learn how to walk and cycle again. There have been “lots of tears”, her mum shared.

“There are different coloured ribbons that represent each type of cancer a person can get. It’s very surreal to think Saoírse now has two ribbons that represent her having (1) Bone cancer & (2) Lung cancer.”

Roseanna said they had no idea about this type of cancer until it affected their beautiful daughter.

“We as a family were never aware of any such cancer, let alone childhood cancer. It comes into your home and completely turns your life upside down. EVERYTHING changes!”

“And just when you think you’re picking yourself up and starting to find your way, then it comes to your door again!”

Despite the struggles, heartache, and constant anxiety, Saoirse and her family remain positive.

Her mum added, “But no matter what, we continue to be incredibly grateful.”
