After reading this, you’ll never go on a playground slide with your child again

One mother has spoken out about the danger of sharing a playground slide with your child as her little boy suffered a painful injury.

Kristi Brough spoke to Pop Sugar in a bid to warn other mums and dads after her three-year-old son Gage ended up with a broken leg.

The upset mum, who lives in San Francisco, said that other parents may be aware of the potential dangers but she wasn’t and so she wanted to share her story.

Kristi explained that her son’s shoe got caught at the end of the metal slide and he ended up with his foot twisted under him.

That was uncomfortable enough but her weight behind him made it more difficult for him to untwist his foot going down the slide and this resulted in a painful leg fracture.

Although many parents often accompany their children on slides to protect them, this often has an adverse effect.

A 2009 study conducted by New York’s Winthrop University Hospital found that 14 percent of 58 fractures over an 11-month period were received from playground slide injuries.

According to The New York Times, the study was conducted by Dr John Gaffney, a pediatric orthopaedic specialist who found that every one of these fractures related to children under the age of 3.

Although your little ones might enjoy it and you’ll get them giggling from sliding with Mum or Dad, the reality is it’s better to be safe than sorry by avoiding it in future.
