This video shows why you should never leave a water bottle in the car

Never again.

Olivia Hayes

This is pretty scary.

Look at the back seat of your car and you’ll probably find a bottle of water or two.

It’s pretty normal to just take a sip while driving or pass one back to the kids while on a long road trip.

However, this latest video has shown just how dangerous that is.

A battery technician from a US power company was in work one day when he saw smoke coming from his car.

When he went over to see what the problem was, he found that the culprit was a bottle of water.

“I looked over and noticed light was being refracted through a water bottle and starting to catch the seat on fire,” said the technician, Dioni Amuchastegui on Facebook.

In the video, Dioni places a bottle of water on his front car seat, and after a few seconds, smoke can be seen forming, with two burn marks left on his seat after the experiment.

According to KFOR news: “The sunlight will come through, when it’s filled with liquid, and act as a magnifying glass as you would with regular optics.

“It uses the liquid and the clear material to develop a focused beam and sure enough, it can actually cause a fire, a combustion.”

We’ll think twice before leaving a water bottle in the car again.
