Whitney Port opens up about her 'unhealthy' mum habit

Social media is near unavoidable these days, but can feel like a lot of pressure for parents.

You scroll through updates on ‘amazing’ christenings and ‘special’ birthdays, photos of smiley family days out and messy days indoors where your friends and their kids are beaming as they bake together in a Pinterest-perfect kitchen without so much as a hair out of place.

The content that celebrity mums share online can be worse – lavish playrooms, incredible holidays, their kids chowing down on all-organic everything without so much as a chocolate biscuit in sight.

We all know that what we see on social media doesn’t necessarily reflect reality but it can still feel like everyone else is doing it right and you’re not up to scratch.

Even celeb parents themselves aren’t immune to feeling a little inadequate.

Speaking to Us Weekly, Whitney Port revealed that since becoming mum to baby Sonny last year, she sometimes lets the pressure to be perfect get to her.

“I look at photos and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, how did they get themselves together and look so cute?’ or ‘How do they keep their house so clean.’ I am constantly comparing myself and it’s so unhealthy.”

She hit the nail on the head, and she’s not alone. Lots of mums feel the same way and it can only be a positive thing that we can acknowledge it and maybe step back from what we see on our screens.
