Baby names

I’ve had my baby’s name picked out for years but is it too unusual?

Do you think this name is too weird?

There are some monikers we have had on our baby name list for years. They hold a special place in our hearts, but what do you do when the meaning of the name is tainted?

One mum is worried the name she adores most will result in her daughter being teased.

She explained that she has had this moniker picked out since 2017, but the pandemic has ruined it for her.

The mum wants to call her baby Cove, but she’s concerned it sounds too much like ‘Covid’.

“So we decided on this name in September 2017,” she told Mumsnet.

“We had been trying for a baby for a while and knew this would be our girl name when we eventually fell pregnant.”

She continued, “Anyway, we have since found out we are having a baby girl and I am due very soon.”

“We decided to call her Cove,” she shared.

“But now I’m worrying that it’s too close to Covid, especially since she will be born during the pandemic.”

The expectant-mum said she doesn’t mind if people don’t like the moniker personally. However, she is worried her daughter will be teased and bullied over it in the future.

“I’m not too worried about people liking the name personally, but more worried about whether she’ll be teased in the future because of its association with Covid? Am I overthinking?” she asked.

Mums felt it wasn’t the best option given our current situation.

“I would absolutely avoid that at the moment. Perhaps save it for your next baby if you plan to have another,” one suggested.

Another added, “Don’t do it. Such a shame and another thing covid has taken from us. But seriously. You can’t do it now.”
