Gal Gadot on why she held off telling Justice League stars she was pregnant

Audiences were none the wiser.

Gal Gadot has admitted she held off on telling her Justice League co stars about her pregnancy – because she didn’t want them to think she couldn’t get the job done.

The 32 year old actress, who is on the cover of Rolling Stone’s September issue, was five months pregnant (and battling morning sickness) while she was filming reshoots for Wonder Woman last year.

But she went to some pretty great lengths to hide her pregnancy on screen and from her fellow superheroes – at least, for a little while.

She told Rolling Stone:

”We cut open the costume and had this green screen on my stomach.

“It was funny as hell – Wonder Woman with a bump.”

But when it came time to shoot Justice League, she chose to wait to wait to share the happy news with her cast mates – worrying she would be thought of as weak.

She added:

“I didn’t want attention.

“The default should be that women get the job done, but there’s a long way to go and a lot of reprogramming that needs to be done to both genders.”

Wonder Woman has since passed the $800 million benchmark at the world wide box-office – and became the top grossing movie directed by a woman.

The blockbuster film, which came 75 years after Wonder Woman’s comic debut, also led to Gadot’s portrayal of the Amazonian warrior becoming a role model for girls across the globe.

Gal said:

”People always ask me, ‘Are you a feminist?’

“And I find the question surprising, because I think, ‘Yes, of course.

“Every woman, every man, everyone should be a feminist. Because whoever is not a feminist is a sexist.’ ”

She credits part of her strength to her childhood in the Israeli city of Rosh Ha’ayin.

Gal explained that she and her younger sister were raised to “believe that we’re capable, to value ourselves” by their parents.

She added:

“There was no TV-watching. It was always ‘Take a ball and go play.

“In general, I was a good girl, a good student, a pleaser, and I was a tomboy.

“Always with wounds and scratches on my knees.”
