Katie Mythen-Lynch

Anyone who is trying for a baby will more than likely discover the happy news by taking a test (or six) in the bathroom.

For women who become pregnant unexpectedly however, nature has its own way of giving us the heads up.

Now Reddit users have been adding their own weird and wonderful hints and giveaways to a thread on the site… and some of the stories are downright fascinating.

Here are 12 of the best:

“My boyfriend was microwaving an egg and I could smell it from upstairs, down the hall, through the closed door, in my bed.” -BabyBumps

“I knew because I suddenly felt AMAZING. Which was weird because my father died last spring and I was going through a really hard time grieving and feeling general depression over it. It was like as soon as the sperm hit the egg I looked outside and thought ‘Wow! Look how beautiful and blue the sky is!'” – PirateNadine

“I was watching a crime drama and (inevitably) someone got horribly murdered. I just started sobbing. After 10 minutes of crying disgustingly I had the realisation that this was a ridiculous reaction and peed on a stick.” – Strigidae

“Oddly, the skin on my arms and my breasts felt different. It very abruptly turned smoother.” – PurplePsycho

“I had a suspicion when I drip-nose, red-face ugly cried because I didn’t have $3 to buy my husband a coffee.” – PancakesForTurtles

“My anxiety went through the roof for no reason, oh and headaches! The headaches that aren’t quite migraines, but aren’t quite normal either.” – Elle345

“I had horrible pain in my back on the left side (incidentally, where she really likes to hang out now) for a few days before I tested. I accused the hubs of kicking me in the back in the middle of the night.” – FudgeMunkys

“I went to do my regular run and I couldn’t catch my breath. Then I did this weird wretch thing without vomiting about two days before my period was due.” – Jenna

“Really sore breasts and nipples, and being thirsty all the time. I don’t normally drink a lot of water at all, so the thirst was especially unusual.” – MeepMeep1357

“I felt weirdly attached to my husband if that makes sense. It also helps that my periods are freaky regular and my cramps that start 4 days before my period never came.” – Mudkipmurron

“I had to get up in the middle of the night almost every night to go eat something, usually a bowl of cereal or a granola bar,” – MrsTroy

“I had two drinks over an almost three hour period. I went home, ate, drank some water and got a full night of rest. I woke up in the morning and I felt like I had partied like it was 1999.”  -Corktownyo
