Dandruff is a common problem but did you know that there is another product in your bathroom that can be used to tackle it?
It seems that mouthwash, specifically original Listerine, is a great way of getting rid of dandruff and preventing an itchy scalp.
According to beauty vlogger Farah Dhukai, you simply mix it with some water and then spritz it onto freshly washed hair (scalp only). After leaving it on the scalp for a few minutes, you can wash it out with water.
She explains beside the Instagram clip: “Your scalp will feel tingly, cool and refreshed and it will be dandruff free!!#sofreshandsoclean #fresherthanyou…
“Listerine has menthol, thymol, eucalyptol and methyl salicylate – all which make it an anti-fungal, anti-septic and and anti-inflammitory and PERFECT for getting rid of dandruff [sic].”
According to the Livestrong website, Listerine was developed as a surgical antiseptic and used to clean wounds and treat fungal infections including dandruff. It was only in 1895 that it was suggested for oral hygiene use.
If you don’t fancy putting mouthwash on your head, Alopecia Ireland recommends applying vitamin E to the scalp or using apple cider vinegar as a rinse to treat dandruff.
