What this mother in law did is a big no-no

Laura Holland

An angry mother has taken to a parenting forum to seek advice about something her mother-in-law did.

She explained on Mumsnet that her child was spending the weekend with her ex-partner. When she came to pick her up she found out that her mother-in-law had chopped off her daughter’s hair.

She said:

“DC [dear child] spent the weekend with their dad and I collected them from school yesterday.

On Thursday when mil [mother-in-law] was looking after dd [dear daughter], mil took it upon herself to cut all dd’s hair off. And give her a fringe!!!

It’s gone from being long, blonde, beautiful waves to a shoulder length bob.”

She then added:

“I am beyond angry. I’ve had no explanation from mil or exh who both appear to think I am overreacting. What would you do?”

People have been quick to agree with her, with one person saying, “I would be fuming but nothing I could do. It’s done, the hair will grow back and I would tell them never to do it again.”

And another adding, “It’s a significant change. At her age, it should be a joint decision between parents. I’d be apoplectic with rage!”

One other person said, “I would be very unimpressed, unless your DD begged her to do it, but even then she should have talked to you first!”
