Gardaí launch investigation after young boy is killed in road accident

Gardaí say the young boy was the sole occupant of the car.

A young boy has been tragically killed in a road collision in Adare, Co. Limerick.

A car collided with a lorry on the N21 at Rineroe in the early hours of the morning.

It is believed the young boy was driving the car.

The accident took place shortly after 2 am this morning.

Gardaí, paramedics, and the fire brigade attended the scene, but sadly the boy could not be saved.

The car collided with a lorry on the N21 at Rineroe, but the lorry driver was not injured.

The boy was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

His body has been removed to the morgue at University Hospital Limerick.

Gardaí issued a statement following the accident.

“The driver of the lorry, a man in his 40s, did not require hospital treatment.

“The scene is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are currently in place on the N21, with city-bound traffic being diverted from Adare via Croom.

Witnesses have been urged to come forward. Gardaí are particularly interested in any road users who may have camera footage. They are also interested in talking to anyone with dash-cam footage who was traveling on the N21 at the time of the accident.
