“What is society’s attitude towards children who are alone in a crowded place?”
That is the question that UNICEF’s latest social experiment, as part of their #FightUnfair campaign, is asking and the answer might surprise you.
That’s because it appears to be dependent on what the child looks like.
The organisation enlisted the help of six-year-old Anna who is a child actor. They dressed her up in nice clothes and placed her alone in a public area.
It turns out that people were more than willing to approach and help her, but when they made her look different, the reaction was completely different.
When people thought she was homeless, they ignored her. Some even treated her with disgust, to the point that she ran from a café crying and the experiment was abandoned.

This week the annual report from UNICEF estimated that approximately 69 million children under the age of five will die by 2030, the majority from preventable causes, unless more action is taken.
