Danielle Lloyd defends plans to use gender selection to have baby girl

"It's my life and why can't I make myself happy?"

Danielle Lloyd has defended her plans to consider gender selection for her fifth child, as she wants “family balance”.

The former Celebrity Big Brother star is already a mum to four boys, but admitted she always wanted a baby girl.

She appeared on Loose Women on Wednesday to talk about the controversial procedure, which allows parents-to-be to choose the sex of their child.

The surgery is not legal in the UK, but is in the United States and Cyprus.

The former glamour model admitted she’s faced some criticism over her plans, but stands by her decision.

She added:

“I think, for me, it’s about family balance as well. I totally understand why there are two sides to the story – some people don’t agree with it, some people do.

“But for me, I’ve just always wanted that little baby girl.

“I love my boys, I’m so thankful I’ve got them and I wouldn’t change them for the world, my house is a crazy house, but they even keep saying to me, ‘mummy, is our little baby sister in there yet?’ and I’m like, ‘no that’s just my food’.”

She explained that she was keen to have a daughter because of the strong relationship she had with her own mum.

She is also worried that when boys grow up, they “go off, they get girlfriends and they go off and play football and do whatever”.

She said that she isn’t completely sure if she will actually go through with the treatment, but is currently looking at options in the United States.

She continued:

“As long as the baby’s healthy, it shouldn’t matter. But I just think, everyone’s going to have their opinions.

“It’s something I want to do. It’s my life and why can’t I make myself happy?”

The 34-year-old said that her plans for the treatment have caused her to be met with criticism – and even her kids are now being targeted.

She said:

“I can’t stand trolls, they really get on my nerves.

“I would never let my kids on social media these days because it really upsets me.

“I had one the other day saying about one of my little boys teeth because they grow a little bit crooked, but how can you say something about a child? It’s disgusting.

“If you’ve got nothing nice to say, don’t say it at all.”
