Jimmy Kimmel encouraged parents to prank their kids while playing Fortnite and it didn't go well

Most had complete meltdowns.

Fornite will be a video game a lot of parents are familiar with. It was developed in 2017 and since then has attained widespread popularity with 12+ age set.

It’s where “the floss” dance craze originated and now a plethora of merchandise from the game like figurines and even a Fortnite Monopoly are available to purchase.

The hype isn’t about to die down anytime soon.

How would your kids react if you turned off the monitor when they were playing? Do you think they’d be upset, laugh, get angry or have a complete meltdown?

Well, being the prankster that he is, TV personality Jimmy Kimmel asked parents to take part in a little experiment by doing just that.

“I asked, and many of you answered,” he explained as an introduction to the prank.

The three-minute video mashup was posted late last week and already has over three million, so clearly a lot of parents were curious.

“What are you doing, go cook!” was one of the milder responses to the sudden shock. More common were the fits of rage that ensued after their game came to an abrupt halt, with shrieks of, “what do you want?” as commonplace. Other reactions included, “Are you out of your mind?” “What are you doing? My friend just died because of you!” Emotions were running VERY high! Jimmy’s advice at the end was simple:

“Now go outside.”

Seeing some of the dramatic reactions was actually quite scary to watch. Especially as new research suggests heavy use of digital devices could impact on children’s information processing.

How do you think your Fornite-obsessed child would react if you pulled a similar stunt?
