Parents told to stop saying expensive gifts are from Santa

Kat O'Connor

Parents shouldn’t tell their children Santa gave them their lavish presents

Parents have been warned against telling their children their expensive gifts are from Santa.

A social worker explained that this can be incredibly hurtful for children who get less than others.

In a now-viral post, the social worker advised parents to say the more expensive gifts are from them.

She wrote, “I cannot stress this enough. Stop telling your Santa-aged kids that their iPads, iPhones, and 200-dollar toys are from Santa.

The social worker stressed that so many families cannot afford lavish gifts. When other children hear that Santa gave one child an iPad and another a book then they’ll feel like they’re not as important.

She explained, “Some families can’t afford that. Little kids wonder why they got socks or a coat or hand-me-down toys from Santa and other kids got an iPad.”

She said families have cried to her over this new habit and some children even said they felt like Santa didn’t love them as much.

“Breaks my heart for the parents and the kids. Take credit for the gift. Santa didn’t buy that iPad; Momma or Daddy did. Leave the less expensive gifts from Santa. Be blessed you can afford what others cannot. Merry Christmas.”

We couldn’t agree with the social worker more.

Christmas is such a difficult time of year for so many families, especially with the ongoing cost of living crisis.

The last thing anyone needs is to see their child crying because they think Santa doesn’t care about them.

Telling your kids that their more expensive gifts are from Santa is a great idea.

What do you think of the social worker’s idea?
