Here Is The Baby Naming Trend That Was BOUND To Happen

Inspiration, as we all know, can pretty much strike whenever.

Popular culture is always a winner, though, and it seems, according to a new report by UK website Bounty Baby Club, parents are in ever increasing numbers turning to their favourite Netflix shows when it comes to coming up with a moniker for their baby.

The report, which reviewed the 340,000 names the website’s members gave to their babies in recent months, found that as well as more commonplace character names increasing in popularity, there’s been a sharp rise in unique names featured on a variety of Netflix shows this year.

Names from shows like Orange Is the New Black (Piper, anyone?) is steadily climbing the charts, with many parents opting for monikers like Sophie, Gloria and Stella.

Breaking Bad is also continuing to inspire new mums and dads, with names like Skylar, Walter, Jesse and Mike all climbing the charts. Heck, even violent biker series Sons of Anarchy provided parents with choices such as Jax, Gemma and Abel.

House of Cards is another Netflix series receiving much love and so are some key characters’ names. This year’s favourites  include Claire; climbing 20%, Zoe; up 8%, and Remy has gained serious ground in the charts too, becoming 21 percent more popular in 2016.

Bloodline characters also proved popular last year, with quirky girl’s names Belle and Evangeline and classic boy’s names Marco and Eric all gaining strong ground.

The show Jessica Jones also proved a hit with parents naming their female babies, with names like Harper and Patsy both receiving massive jumps in popularity.

This is what Lisa Penney from Bounty.com, had to say about the trend: “It seems parents can’t get enough of settling down with their favourite Netflix boxset, so much so their favourite characters are living on in their children’s names. The influence has seen surprising rises in some names that have been on the decline in recent years such as, House of Cards inspired Claire; climbing 20%, Zoe; up 8%, now well inside the top 100.”

Looks like all that boxset binging is paying off, then.
