Traditional is OUT and names inspired by travel, TV and celebrity are bigger than ever.
That’s according to Nameberry – one of the biggest baby names sites – they have just crunched the numbers on the names that are going to be most popular this year.
Last year classic names like Charlotte and Oliver topped the list but this year is set to be very different. Pamela Redmond Satran is a writer with the site:
“The results are astonishing: A whole raft of hot new names signal a major cultural shift in 2017”
Ok, so how exotic are we talking?
The name Tatjana for girls and Kyd for boys saw the biggest spikes in searches over the last year – perhaps influenced by Netflix shows such as Orphan Black actress Tatiana Maslany.
Tahiti (like the island) is number three on the girl’s list and there was a surge in the name Sherlock, also inspired by the TV show.
The influence of celebrity remains strong with Ines, Ryan Reynolds daughter, number five on the list and Bowie number 16.
