The luckiest baby names of 2020 have been revealed and let’s be honest, we need some luck!

Do you believe in luck?

Niamh Maher

Obsessed with the girl name, wish it was mine to be honest.

2020 hasn’t been the luckiest of years, understatement much? Despite the ups and downs this year has brought, there’s one consistent that we adore here at HerFamily… and that’s baby names.

Lucky for us, the names bringing good luck and hope to parents-to-be have been revealed so, of course we needed to share the news! According to new research, baby names in 2020 have been significantly leaning toward that of prosperity, good fortune and hope!

So, why would parents give their children a luck-loaded name?

It seems (of those surveyed) it’s in the hopes that it might help them later in life. Now, some people don’t believe in luck. Some people believe that in life you make your own luck!

We can’t say for sure what we believe, but these names are pretty darn cute.

1. Iris

Directly derived from the Greek word Iris, in Greek mythology Iris was the goddess of the rainbow which acted as a multicoloured bridge joining heaven and earth. We all know how lucky rainbows are!

2. Evangeline

Also rooted in Greek mythology, Evangeline means the ‘bearer of good news’. That’s literally all I need to know

3. Beatrice

The origin of Beatrice is rooted in Italian and Latin meaning ‘She who brings happiness; blessed’. We all know how well the #blessed does on social media these days so not surprised that Beatrice, which could be considered a tad more old fashion is making a comeback

Below are the top three boys name to inspire prosperity and good fortune:

1. Asher

This name has strong religious connotations. In Hebrew, Asher has connotations of joy, happiness or blessings (#blessed again) in abundance.

2. Felix

To be fair, we’ve yet to find a baby name list that doesn’t have Felix on it. A glorious name that’s been toping popularity lists for years at this rate. What some of you may not know is Felix originates from the Latin word ‘Felicis’ which – like Felicity – means lucky, happy or successful. No wonder it’s so popular amongst boys and girls!

3. Quinn

A good strong Irish name to round out the top three. Quinn is rooted in the Gaelic term ‘ceann’ which is loaded with connotations such as knowledge, sense and intelligence. Attributes we all need in life.
