I’m embarrassed about the name I gave my baby girl

Kat O'Connor

Do you ever wish you could change your name?

We don’t get a say in our monikers, but we do get to choose our children’s names.

There’s so much pressure to find the perfect one that’ll stand the test of time, but what do you do when you regret your choice?

One mum has opened up about the dilemma she is facing. She shared, “I regret the name we chose for our daughter and I don’t know what to do.”

“It’s gradually been eating away at me for the past 6 months,” she admitted.

“I won’t say what it is as I know some people won’t like it and will make me feel even worse about it. It’s an unusual “nature” name and mostly used for a boy I think.”

Many people think her baby is called River, which we think is quite a sweet moniker.

“I’ve got it into my head that it’s too much of a try-hard name (this was obviously not our intention!) and a bit skanky!” the mum confessed.

“She’s my absolute world and I can’t help feel like I’ve let her down,” she said.

The mum said it was her partner’s first choice and it was on her list too. She now thinks they rushed into it.

“It was a rushed decision when she arrived as we hadn’t properly chosen.

“People were pressuring us for a name, and now it’s too late!”

She asked other mums if they experienced a similar wobble about their name choice.

Many mums advised her to simply change it. Her daughter is young enough for her to do so.

Another confessed, “If it’s Rowan then that’s my daughter’s name and I regret it. I wish I had changed it.”
